Celebrating the centenary of the Representation of the People Act, a hundred years on, Royal Mail has released a series of stamps commemorating 100 years of Votes for Women. This Votes for Women Presentation Pack AP441 presents an overview of the trials and tribulations of the women who campaigned tirelessly to win the vote; beginning in the early 1800s right up until the vote being granted in February 1918. Documenting some of the campaign activities and public actions, the eight stamps are split between examples of the major set piece demonstrations and publicity activity that took place, as well as some of the individuals involved.
The front cover includes all eight Special Stamps, split between examples of the major set piece demonstrations and publicity activity that took place along with some of the individuals involved. The colour theme is consistent with the one adopted by the WSPU (Women’s Social and Political Union) and the badges displayed are examples of those used at the time. Written by Elizabeth Crawford, an established author on the Women’s Suffragette movement, the presentation pack gives a brief but in-depth insight into the journey and the plight of women’s rights groups that eventually led to women being granted the right to vote in 1918.
Some of the influential figures of the Suffrage movement have become important historical figures in Britain.
